France VS. Germany: How The Euro Should Be Managed
The Euro Crisis in 2009 revealed the flaws in the currency's design. Countries like Germany says that the main culprits aren't the design flaws, but public debt and the only way to fix that is with austerity, but other countries such as France, disagree. Germany favor rules and discipline and complain about debt increase and they also favor austerity during hard times. France however, prefers to be flexible and discrete and they worry about large current-account surpluses and no mutual debt instrument and they also favor fiscal stimulus.
The Trial of Christine Lagarde
After Christine Lagarde became the French economy minister in 2007, she allowed a dispute between the government and businessman Bernard Tapie to be settled by arbitration rather than in the courts and now she is accused of failing to keep taxpayers' money safe. On July 22 2016, one of France's largest courts ruled that Christine Lagarde must stand trial negligence.
